Terry L. Willison, Sr. 72, of Uhrichsville, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family in his home on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 following a long battle with cancer.
Born in Dover, he was the son of the late Robert D. and Doris I. (LeMasters) Willison and a graduate of the former Tuscarawas-Warwick High School in Tuscarawas. Following his graduation, Terry joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, Terry began a career working for the former Miller Studio in New Philadelphia from where he retired as a Supervisor.
Terry had a love for baseball and was a longtime umpire for the Uhrichsville Little League, District 4 and had also served as a Little League Coach for teams sponsored by both Spring Electric and Truck Sales and Service. He was also a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association #857 of New Philadelphia and had also bowled in the Twin City Merchants League at Alpa Lanes in Uhrichsville.
On September 26, 1970, Terry married Lois Ann (Johnson) and together shared over 50 years of marriage before his passing. Also surviving are his two sons, Terry (Kasey) Willison, Jr. of New Philadelphia and Greg (Becca) Willison of Massillon; four grandchildren, Samantha Willison, Lexa (Holly) Oyler, Maxwell Willison and Austin Kraft-DeSantis; his sister, Cheryl (Ed) McPherson; his brother, Robert (Michael) Willison and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, a sister, Tresa Virtue, also preceded him in death.
In keeping with his wishes, Terry is to be cremated through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and a Memorial Service honoring Terry will be held Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Uhrichsville where the New Philadelphia VFW will conduct military graveside honors. The family will receive friends and family in the funeral home on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM.
The family requests that to honor Terry’s service to his country, memorial contributions be made to either the Vietnam Veterans Association, P.O. Box 170, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663, or, Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
The 6-foot rule will be honored and all guests are required to wear a mask to enter the funeral home. For the safety of everyone, and to allow other guests to pay their respects, we politely ask that visitors to not linger in the funeral home and to please promptly exit the building after greeting the family.
