Phyllis Jean Kennedy

Phyllis Jean Kennedy, 71, of Dover, died peacefully Friday, June 6, 2003 in Union Hospital. Born June 12, 1931 in New Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Albertus Phillips and Bessie Elizabeth Angel Phillips. A graduate of New Philadelphia High School, she married Grover “Fuzzy” Kennedy on March 19, 1949. Mrs. Kennedy led an active life. She had a talent for cooking, knitting, sewing and crocheting. She took pride in her flower gardens. Most of all she loved children, supporting her own daughter and sons. She was a little league scorekeeper for many years. Phyllis was an involved parent, always taking time for PTA meetings, and Dover Band Booster activities. She attended many Dover football games, and was also a fan of the Cleveland Indians. She was fond of many children she came to know while spending more than two decades in Dover High School’s cafeteria, before her retirement as food service director in 1991.Upon retirement, she and her husband began wintering in a park in Dade City, Florida.. There, she shared her ability to make crafts with her friends in their community She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren, New Philadelphia, and was a member of the New Philadelphia Business & Professional Women’s Association prior to her retirement. In addition to her husband of fifty-three years, she leaves behind a daughter; Pat (Jim) West of North Canton, O , two sons; Dan (Bonnie) Kennedy of Pace, FL, and Keith (Carol) Kennedy of Jewett, O, four granddaughters; Jennifer (Bill) Dugan of Wheaton, IL, Heather West of Chicago, IL, Summer Kennedy of Baltimore, MD, and Dana Kennedy of Pace, FL, a grandson; Rob West of Chicago, Il, two-great-grandchildren, Emma & Edward Dugan, sisters Marie Stuber of New Philadelphia, Ruth Ross of Lakeland, FL, and Jane Wilden of Cadiz, O, and a brother Paul Phillips of Dover. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister; Helen Angeloni, and brothers Ralph Lawrence, Howard Lawrence, Frank “Buss” Lawrence, and Jesse “Bud” Phillips.Friends are invited to call Monday from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia. Rev. Joseph Glassner will officiate funeral services Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at 11am in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street Dover OH 44622.
