James R. Hendershot, 75, of Strasburg, died Friday, April 23, 2021 in Cleveland Clinic-Union Hospital at Dover.
The son of the late Ira and Nellie (Book) Hendershot, James was born April 20, 1946 and was a graduate of Tusky Valley High School.
James attended Faith Baptist Church at Zoar and held many, varied interests. He loved golfing, attending auctions and riding his motorcycle. He was an avid outdoorsman and could often be found hunting, fishing on his boat at Salt Fork Lake, mushroom hunting or working in his garden. James also loved blacksmithing and had made many knives for his friends and family to enjoy. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to whomever needed it but above all these things, he loved spending time with his family.
While attending an event at Columbia Skateland, James met his future wife the former Bonnie Lee Baker. On July 20, 1968, the couple married and raised three children and had celebrated over 49 years of marriage before Bonnie’s passing on August 28, 2017.
James is survived by his children, Sandy (Donnie) Himes of Zoarville, Jim (Amy) Hendershot of New Philadelphia, and Doug Hendershot and his fiancé, Lindsey Recco of New Philadelphia; his beloved grandchildren, Kaci Himes, Morgan (Cory) Greenwood, Whitney Hendershot, Brynn Hendershot, Tyler Hendershot and Paiten Hendershot; a great grandson, Brooks Greenwood; two brothers, Carl (Tinia) Hendershot and Merv (Jean) Hendershot; two sisters, Judy (Chuck) McNutt and Carol Meininger and his loving dog, Zoe Girl.
In addition to his parents and his wife, James was preceded in death by a brother, Irvin Hendershot; his mother-in-law, Gladys Baker and his brother-in-law, Gary Meininger.
In keeping with James’s wishes there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation will take place through the care of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
