Duanne Cy Laughlin, age 91, of Floral City, Florida, and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, February 25, 2021, in Highland Place, at Inverness Florida.
Born on April 9, 1929, in Coshocton, Ohio, Cy was a son of the late Duanne Billingsly and Mary Elizabeth Lummis Laughlin.
He was a Navy Veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean War and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from THE Ohio State University.
On March 17, 1956, he married the former E. Jane Laughlin. Together the couple had two sons and shared in 48 years of marriage prior to Jane’s passing on May 29, 2004.
Professionally, Cy worked for many years at ODOT and was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church at New Philadelphia. He served for more than 20 years as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 181 at New Philadelphia. Cy was passionate about bringing up the next generation of youth by teaching skills they could use for a lifetime. Most recently, Cy has lived in Florida where he even affiliated himself with a Boy Scout Troop in the area and was instrumental in helping them relocate to a new building and grow their program. In his free time Cy was an avid gardener and bowler who also loved genealogy, woodworking, home repair projects, camping and attending Summer Showcase programs at Tuscora Park and being a part of Family Reunions.
Cy was also a long-standing member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the New Philadelphia VFW, New Philadelphia Elks #510 and the Dover Moose and Eagles.
He is survived by his two sons, Duanne R. (Cheryl) Laughlin and Steven L. Laughlin all of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Stacy Laughlin of Georgia, Elizabeth (Sean) Lee of Arizona, Tawnya (Rob) Baker of Kentucky, Melissa (Micah) Wissman, and Victor (companion, Jennifer Raleigh) Paris of Cincinnati; his great-grandchildren, Johanna Dillon, Rachel Lee, Fitzgerald Lee, Charlie Baker, Micah Wissman, and Cecilia Wissman; and his special and faithful friend, Joan Poe, of Inverness, Florida.
A graveside service, with military honors, will take place on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at 11 AM in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Cy’s name be directed to any Hospice Charity of the donor’s choice.
