Woodrow “Woody” Richesson, 87, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, January 13, 2006 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover.A son of the late Ward Richesson and Goldie (Blackson) Richesson, Woody was born March 26, 1918 in Conesville, Ohio.He was a 1937 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and was employed by Joy Manufacturing for sometime before and after his service in the military.On October 27, 1943, Woody enlisted with the United States Air Force. He had attained the rank of First Lieutenant before receiving an honorable discharge on March 9, 1946.Woody also was employed at the New Philadelphia Post Office where he served several years as an Examiner. As an Examiner, he was in charge of conducting examinations for those seeking postal employment or other government positions. Then in 1978, after 28 years of service, Woody retired from the Post Office as Superintendent.Throughout his lifetime he had been active in softball and bowling and was an avid golfer.He is survived by two sons, Edward (Mary Louise) Richesson of Wilkshire Hills and William (Becky) Richesson of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Julie (Tim) Altier of Dover, Scott (Jennifer) Richesson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Brian (Cathy) Richesson of Twinsburg, Ohio and Sgt. Mark (Kim) Richesson of Cherry Point, North Carolina; and great-grandchildren, Kyla, Abby, Andrew, Julia and Christopher Richesson.Woody was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Mary Ann (Gocek) Richesson; an infant daughter, Judith; one sister, Ruth Lowmiller; and two brothers, Harry Richesson and Rolland Myers.Visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2006 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Woody’s life will be held on Tuesday, January, 17, 2006 at 10 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. Glen Shedlock officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 will perform military honors. Following the services, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center in New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4815 Munson Street NW, Canton, OH 44718.
