Winifred Stark Drumm, 89, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 4, 2014 in Union Hospital at Dover.
A daughter of the late Dennis Marquand and Mary Elizabeth (Denny) Wolfe, Winnie was born December 17, 1924 at Columbus, Ohio.
Winnie graduated from Gnadenhutten High School then continued her education at The Ohio State University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree and Kent State University where she earned a Master’s degree.
On June 5, 1947, Winnie married the love of her life, Donald E. Drumm. Together the couple raised four children, Vicki, Denny, Debbie and Mitch.
She formerly worked as a social worker for the Cuyahoga County Child Welfare Department and then retired as a teacher from Starlight School after 23 years of service. Winnie was a longtime member of Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church at New Philadelphia and was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was an active volunteer for Friends of the Homeless and formerly volunteered at West and Tuscarawas Elementary Schools.
She is survived by her children, Victoria (Michael) Sperry of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Donald Denny (Paula) Drumm of New Philadelphia, Deborah (Joseph) Springer of New Philadelphia and Mitchell (Mary) Drumm of Brecksville, Ohio; her grandchildren, Leslie Korns, Nicole (William) Fowles, Elizabeth Drumm, Emily Drumm, Katherine Drumm, Kyle Springer, Caleb Sperry, Jacob Sperry, Wesley Sperry, Kris (Dave) Cardani and Kim (Mark) Richesson and her great grandchildren, Carter Korns and Colton Korns and an expected great granddaughter, Wynn Fowles.
Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, David and Clement Wolfe.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Winnie’s life will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Tracy Pryor officiating. In keeping with her wishes cremation will follow the services and inurnment will be held in Clay Union Cemetery at Gnadenhutten at a later date.
