Wilmer N. Shroyer, age 85, of North Star Community, Dover died Friday, October 31, 2008.A son of the late Oliver and Pearl Shroyer, Wilmer was born at Adamsville, Ohio on April 6, 1923.Wilmer was a graduate of Adamsville High School and following graduation, he became involved with and eventually became a franchise owner of the former Moore’s Store at Dover.Following the store’s closing, Wilmer worked for Fenton Brothers Electric at New Philadelphia, retiring after more than 30 years of service. On October 24, 1946, Wilmer married the former Edna Ulrich who preceded him in death in 1995. In May of 2000 Wilmer remarried and for the past several years has enjoyed the company of his wife, Joanne.Wilmer enjoyed golfing and bowling as well as being a spectator of sporting events on television. However, Wilmer was most active as a sideline participant, cheering for his grandchildren as they participated in their own sporting activities, often attending up to five games a day. In addition to his wife, Joanne, Wilmer is survived by two daughters, Vicki (Jeff) Fahner and Diane (Alan) Sickinger both of New Philadelphia; a sister, Kathleen Paskel of Zanesville. Six grandchildren, Mark Fahner of Cincinnati, Matthew Fahner of Auburn California, Eric Fahner of Cincinnati, Dusty Milburn of Uhrichsville, Andrew Sickinger of LaPorte, Indiana, and Lacey Sickinger of Cincinnati and six great-grandchildren, Chad and Natalie Fahner of Cincinnati, Audrey Fahner of Auburn, California, Mackenzie Fahner of New Philadelphia, and Chasey and Riley Milburn of Uhrichsville complete the family.In addition to his parents and first wife, Edna, Wilmer was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Homer and John Shroyer and three sisters, Mildred Spragg, Edna Israel, and Helen McCasland.Friends may call Sunday, November 2, 2008, from 2 to 4 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadlephia. Dr. Steven Bailey will lead a funeral service celebrating Wilmer’s life on Monday, November 3, 2008 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadlephia.The family requests that memorial contributions in Wilmer’s name be sent to United Way of Tuscarawas County, 1458 Fifth Street NW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
