Wilma Joyce Russell, age 76, of New Philadelphia died Wednesday, March 25, 2020, in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.
Born at Whitleyville, Tennessee, on January 13, 1944, Joyce was a daughter of the late Alvin and Wilma Keith Lawson.
She attended school at Tusky Valley High School and enjoyed her job as a caregiver to the elderly. In her younger years, she helped families by opening her home to other children and giving them a place to call home. Joyce was always available to those in need and showed love and support by lending her ear to anyone who crossed her path. She will be fondly remembered for her cooking skills. Joyce also greatly enjoyed spending time with her best friend, Jenny, as they painted on canvas together.
She is survived by two children, Robin Johnson of Dover and Robert (Tracy) Russell of Mineral City; 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Janice and Judy and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Russell, two daughters, Brenda and Teresa; two grandchildren, Gregory and Marlaina; three brothers, Alvin James and Gordon; and a son-in-law, George.
In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, cremation will take place. A graveside service in Sandyville Cemetery will be planned for a later date. The Geib Funeral Center at Dover is handling arrangements.
Memorial contributions in Joyce’s name may be directed to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue, SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
