Wilma Hazel Turner

Wilma Hazel Turner, 88, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a lengthy illness.A daughter of the late Lewis and Anna (Cartmill) Caldwell, Wilma was born December 24, 1920 at Point Pleasant, West Virginia.Wilma was a 1938 graduate of Point Pleasant High School then continued her education at Rio Grande College graduating with a degree in education.On June 13, 1953, Wilma married the love of her life, Stephen Lawrence Turner and together the couple raised one son, Gregory.She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia. In her younger years, Wilma enjoyed bowling and arts & crafts and one of her greatest hobbies was baking Christmas cookies.Wilma is survived by her husband, Stephen Turner and her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Georgianne Turner of New Philadelphia.She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Laura Caldwell, Mabel Slater and Irene Powers and three brothers, Hume, Bill and Jack Caldwell.The family will receive friends on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Wilma’s life will be held Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. Stephen Patrick officiating.
