Wilma Hazel Turner, 88, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover following a lengthy illness.A daughter of the late Lewis and Anna (Cartmill) Caldwell, Wilma was born December 24, 1920 at Point Pleasant, West Virginia.Wilma was a 1938 graduate of Point Pleasant High School then continued her education at Rio Grande College graduating with a degree in education.On June 13, 1953, Wilma married the love of her life, Stephen Lawrence Turner and together the couple raised one son, Gregory.She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at New Philadelphia. In her younger years, Wilma enjoyed bowling and arts & crafts and one of her greatest hobbies was baking Christmas cookies.Wilma is survived by her husband, Stephen Turner and her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Georgianne Turner of New Philadelphia.She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Laura Caldwell, Mabel Slater and Irene Powers and three brothers, Hume, Bill and Jack Caldwell.The family will receive friends on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Wilma’s life will be held Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 10 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. Stephen Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.Contributions may be made in Wilma’s memory to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 202 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
