Wilma “Dutch” Stevenson

Wilma Isabelle “Dutch” Stevenson, 93, of Dover, passed away Sunday evening, October 4, 2015 in Hennis Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.

Born in Mill Township at her aunt’s home on March 2, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Walter J. “Dick” and Anna Mae (Errington) Howard.

Dutch was a 1940 graduate of Uhrichsville High School. She served as a chiropractic assistant throughout her career.

Her faith was nurtured throughout her lifetime at Midvale United Methodist Church, where she shared her gift of music with the church. She served as the church pianist for a number of years. Dutch also was a former Sunday School Superintendent at the church.

Dutch greatly enjoyed her memberships with the Tuscarawas County Senior Center, the Red Hatters, and the Midvale Club. She also dealt in antiques for a number of years.

Her family includes her children Warren “Cork” Leggett of Chester Springs, PA, Kevin (Lissa) Stevenson of Virginia Beach, VA, and Melody (Bob) Liberatore of Williamsburg, VA; her daughter-in-law, Sheryl Leggett of Dover; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Katherine Canfield of New Philadelphia.

In addition to her parents, Dutch was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Stevenson on July 23, 1989; her son, James L. Leggett on April 18, 2004; her older children’s father, Warren Leggett; her sister, Laura Maxine Visintainer; her brother, Bill Howard; and her uncle that died in WWII, Bill Errington.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. with a service beginning at 4 p.m. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in East Avenue Cemetery.
