Willie G. Spears, Jr., 65, of New Philadelphia passed away in the Community Hospice House on July 26, 2015.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 20, 1949, he was the son of the late Willie G. and Nellie I. (Alderson) Spears.
After completing his formal education, he began his professional career in engineering. Willie enjoyed many rounds on the golf course, shooting, and working on various projects with his best friend, Duck Colvin, during retirement.
He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends in Alabama. Also tending to his garden and sharing its bounty brought him much joy.
On January 1, 2008, William married the former Patricia Lindsay, whom he had met at the Community of Christ Church in New Philadelphia. Together, they grew in their faith and he greatly enjoyed sharing his time and talent with the church. Willie was involved with his Sunday School class, the building committee and spent numerous hours repairing and tending to the church grounds.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Patricia (Lindsay) Spears; his children, Darrell Spears of Arizona, Alicia (Fred) Seymour of Alabama, Bryan (Sharon) Spears of Tennessee, and Carley and Trevor of Seattle, WA; his step-daughter, Sarah (Phillip) Burkholder of Brunswick, O.; grandchildren, Jonathan and Chase Spears, and Christopher, Elizabeth, and Logan Seymour; his siblings, Teresa (Doug) Barberry of Maryland, Richard (Pat) Spears, Michael (Janet) Spears, and Glenda (Bart) Robinson, all of Alabama; brothers-in-law, Randy (Nan) Lindsay of Uhrichsville and David Lindsay of Dover; his sister-in-law, Joyce Lindsay of New Philadelphia; his best buddy and cat, Rickey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his brother, James “Jimmy” Spears.
Cremation will be cared for through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. A memorial service at the church will be held at a later date.
