William W. Belknap

Dr. W.W. Belknap, 92, prominent New Philadelphia chiropractor died at New Dawn Health Care Center of Dover, OH, early Friday, October 11, 2002.Born July 22, 1910, he was the youngest son of David and Maude Belknap of New Philadelphia. A graduate of New Philadelphia High School, William graduated from Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, IN. He returned to New Philadelphia in 1935 and opened an office on North Broadway where he continued in practice for many years. He maintained memberships in the American Chiropractic Association and the Ohio State Chiropractic Association.Active in community affairs, he may best be known for the years which he spent on the sidelines with the New Phialdelphia High School football teams. In addition, he was active in the Republican Party and was inducted into the Ohio Commodores. He received numerous awards including the Ohio State Chiropractic Association’s Hall of Fame award, the Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame award, the David Zeisberger Outstanding Citizens award, and the New Philadelphia Quaker Foundation Outstanding Alumni award.Memberships include the Otterbein United Methodist Church, the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge, F. & A.M., the Tadmor Shrine of Akron, the New Philadelphia Elks Club, and the New Philadelphia Lions Club.In addition to his parents, Dr. Belknap was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Stroud Belknap, and his nine brothers and sisters. He is survived by four children: William (Joyce) Belknap of New Philadelphia, Anne (Jim) Lukens of Newark, OH, David (Kathy) Belknap of Bolivar, and Jane (Chris) Hill of New Philadelphia; thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.Funeral services will be held Monday, October 14, 2002, at 2:30 PM at the Otterbein United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Taggert officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. Following the committal, a meal will be served at the church. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. The New Philadelphia Elks Lodge will conduct services at 1:45 PM and the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 5 PM. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that donations be made to The Quaker Foundation, 303 Fourth St. NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or to the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 156 Beaver Ave NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
