William D. “Bill” Rogers, 89, of New Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly, Friday , September 22, 2023.
Born in Cleveland, he was the son of the late Clint and Treva (Marshall) Rogers and was a retired Coal Miner that had worked for a number of area mines and was still a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
Bill had many things in his life that he loved but his grandchildren and great grandchildren were at the top of his list. He could often be seen riding his three-speed bike around the area and he continued to do so up until last month. One time he even rode it to Wheeling, West Virginia and back in the same day. He was a hard worker and loved being outside. It did not matter if he was mowing, or watering flowers around the home, he cherished every minute of it, just being outdoors in the sunshine.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, with whom he resided, Sally (Donnie) Warner and his two sons, Joe (Karen) Rogers and William (Ruth Ann) Rogers, Jr. all of New Philadelphia; his six grandchildren, Billie Jo (Jeremy) McCune, Joshua Rogers, John Ruefly, Tyler Warner, Nikki(Nick) Davis and Katie (Phil) Biedenbach; his ten great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Philip, Sofia, Daisy, Maggie, Kam, Angelita, Alisha, Brennan and Matthew.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Ann Rogers, a brother, Clyde Rogers and a sister, Pat Herring.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes, his body is to be cremated through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and a private family graveside service will be held in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
It was also Bill’s wish that memorial contributions, in memory of his daughter, Judy Ann Rogers, be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
