William Dale Rieger, age 95, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014, in Community Hospice House, surrounded by his children, following a period of declining health.
Born at Dover on May 21, 1919, William was a son of the late Leo and Edith (Becker) Rieger.
He was a graduate of Dover High School. From 1942- 1945, William served as a member of the United States Army Air Corps. He later worked 29 years at US Ceramic Tile Company and then retired from Reymond Machine after 16 years.
On July 19, 1943, William married Irma Marie Ricklic. Together they raised their family. William and Irma enjoyed American Round Dancing and Square Dancing, gardening, canning, and taking walks. They loved each other very much and spent many precious memories together until Irma preceded William in death, following nearly 68 years of marriage.
He is survived by a son, Ronald Rieger of Copley, Ohio; a daughter, Nan (James) Troyer of Sherrodsville; four grandchildren, Sybil Dundon, Michelle (Jason Guello) Rieger, Donald (Beth) Rieger, Susan (Carl) Conrad; and many great grandchildren.
The family will greet guests on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at 10:00 AM in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following services, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship in St. Ambrose Hall, adjacent to the church.
