William R. Herron, 88, a lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, passed away in Aultman Hospital in Canton on January 29, 2014 following a period of declining health.
Born in his family’s home in New Philadelphia on January 25, 1926, he was the son of the late Reason and Ruby (Rosenberry) Herron. After completing his formal education at New Philadelphia, he served in the United States Navy.
Early in his career, he owned and operated Herron Dry Cleaning on Tuscarawas Avenue. He then became a plumber and pipefitter working for Local #495 in Cambridge.
On September 19, 1969, Bill married his companion and friend, the former Wilma Joyce Moore. Bill and Joyce enjoyed 44 years of marriage where they danced, traveled, watched movies, and enjoyed many days on the lake boating and water skiing. They were also members of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
Bill will be deeply missed by his wife, Joyce; his step-sons, Michael (Sandy) Willoughby of North Las Vegas and Greg (Jini) Willoughby of New Philadelphia; and his grandchildren, Loren and Keri Willoughby, Jaclyn (Josh) Abrecht, and Kelsey Willoughby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Gene, and his sister, Helen Engleman.
Visitation will be held in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30. The Rev. Stephen Patrick will officiate Bill’s funeral beginning at 11:30. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall following the committal service.
