William R. Evans

William R. Evans, age 78, of Dover, died Sunday, August 23, 2009, in his residence following a lengthy battle with ALS.A son of the late William B. and Katherine (Holmes) Evans, Bill was born at Dover on July 10, 1931.He attended Dover City Schools and soon thereafter entered into the United States Navy and would honorably serve his country from 1950-1954.On June 11, 1955, Bill married the former Jeane Riggs and together the couple would rear two children. For more than thirty-five years Mr. Evans would serve the East Ohio Gas Company as a field clerk. He was a lifetime member of the Dover Elks Club where he would hold positions as the organization’s Treasurer and Secretary.Bill was an avid fan of the Cleveland Brows and Indians and was also a proficient carpenter, having built his family’s first home on the corner of 13th and Walnut in 1958. In addition to his wife of fifty-four years, Bill leaves behind a family that includes his two children Julie (Jerry) Ryan of Dover and John (Jackie) Evans of Westfield Center, Ohio.Four grandchildren, Kelly Ryan, Kristen Ryan, Matthew Evans and Sarah Evans complete the family.In keeping with Bill’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. Cremation care will be conducted through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover. Inurnment will take place in the Dover Burial Park.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W 3rd Street, Dover, Ohio 44622 or to the ALS Family Support Group of Ohio, 513 Chauncey Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
