William Patrick Marino

William Patrick Marino Sr., 95, of Knoxville, Tennessee and formerly of Dover, Ohio, died peacefully on Friday, April 4, 2008 at his home.A son of the late Conchetta Marino, Bill was born October 8, 1912 at Weirton, West Virginia.During World War II, Bill served in the Merchant Marines and later he married the former Josephine Theresa Pruni. Together, the couple raised 12 children. Josephine passed away in 1982.Bill was the longtime owner and operator of Dover Hardware and Wilmar Furniture Store at Dover. He was a devout Catholic whose priorities were his faith, his religion, and his family. As a member of St. Joseph’s Church at Dover, Bill was an advocate for the reconstruction project of the church in the 1950’s. He was a member of the Knight’s of Columbus 4th Degree.He will be remembered by his family and friends as a very humble, peaceful and kindhearted man.He is survived by his loving children and their spouses Judith and Joseph Gantous, Bill and Nancy Marino, Mary Jo and Ben Marino-Johnson, Fran Dougherty, Frank and Debbie Marino, Josephine and Karl Korzeczek, David and Ann Marino, Daniel Marino, Ann and Asif Taufiq, Tom and Jean Marino, Angela Marino and Regina Marino; 33 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three siblings, Mike Marino, Ann Monahan and Augustina Cerpack.Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Josephine and three siblings, Mary Enni, Lucy Duck and Jim Marino.Family and friends may call on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 North Wooster Ave., Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church at Dover. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Hospitality Room at the Geib Funeral Center.In keeping with Bill’s support of Catholic charities, the family suggests that contributions be made in his memory to Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, P.O. Box 307, Maryknoll, NY 10545-0307 or to Sisters of Devine Providence c/o Mrs. Patricia Malinowski, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park, PA 15101 or to the Knight’s of Columbus, c/o Timothy Avon, 1365 Weber Ave SW, Strasburg, OH 44680.
