William Medley

William Medley, 78, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, October 9, 2006 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born March 25, 1928 in Dover, Ohio, he was a son of the late John Alexander Medley and Nancy “Bessie” Elizabeth DeWitt Medley. After completing his formal education, he joined the United States Army. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy, he began his professional career where he retired as a laborer from East Sparta Ceramics. William was also great on his feet as a dancer.He is survived by his daughter, Debra (Dale) Murphy of New Philadelphia; his lifelong companion, Viola Walton of New Philadelphia; one grandson, Robert Dale Bailey of New Philadelphia; one brother, John “Jack” Lester (Martha) Medley of Oregon; one sister, Ruth Fredee of Canton; an aunt, Hazel Kinsey; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; six step-daughters, Linda (Ralph) Harbaugh of New Philadelphia, Pat Sommers of New Philadelphia, Evelyn Walton of New Philadelphia, Kathy (Randy) Zagorec of New Philadelphia, Brenda Lintz of New Philadelphia, and Regina Hershberger of Canton; a step-son, Michael Anderson of Mineral City; 19 step-grandchildren; and his cat, Crazy Baby.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy, Elsie, Betty, Norma, Alvin, Ray and Roy; and two nieces and 3 nephews.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A service celebrating William’s life will be held on Friday in the funeral home’s chapel at 1:00 p.m. with burial at East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia where military rites will be conducted by the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445.
