William G. Leggett, age 73, of Dover, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, in New Dawn Retirement Center following a brief illness.A son of the late Stewart and Lucile (Heavlin) Leggett, Bill was born at Dover, Ohio on September 27, 1935.He attended New Philadelphia High School and soon thereafter entered into the United States Army where he served at Fort Knox Kentucky from 1957 to 1959.Throughout his working career, Bill worked for a number of companies that included Gradall and Babcock & Wilcox prior to retiring from General Electric at Dover in 1994.Bill was a long-time member of Jerusalem Church at New Philadelphia and was best known for his handy work. Bill enjoyed the time he spent working on home improvement projects and working under the hood of a vehicle, particularly his pick-up trucks. Additionally, he enjoyed keeping the grounds that surrounded his home well manicured and tending to his vegetable garden.As a NASCAR fan, Bill was fond of many professional racers and truly enjoyed watching them race. However, he had a great admiration and respect for the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and then later followed the accomplishments of his son. Dale, Jr.Bill is survived by his wife of nearly 39 years, the former Alice Yaggi, whom he married on May 23, 1970; two cousins whom he was especially close with, George (Joanne) Carmack of New Philadelphia and Kathleen (Bill) Wallace of Dennison.A sister-in-law, Betty (Ray) Stilgenbauer; and two brothers-in-law Leroy Yaggi and Walter (Nancy) Yaggi as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two aunts and their spouses, Hazel (William) Baldwin and Frances (Ralph) Carmack.The family will receive guests on Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 2:00 â?? 4:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Dr. Terry Downin will lead Bill’s funeral service on Monday, May 4, 2009, at 10:30 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the Jerusalem Church Cemetery. Following the committal, the family would like to invite guests to join them for a luncheon in the social hall of Jerusalem Church.Memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be sent to Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Road SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
