William J. McEnroe, 80, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully at home on Thursday, June 26, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. A son of the late John and Margaret (Guire) McEnroe, William was born July 10, 1927 at Waterford, New York.Following his graduation from Waterford High School, William enlisted with the United States Navy and served during World War II.On April 10, 1948, He married the love of his life, the former Therese J. Duclos and together the couple reared three children, Denise, Nanette and Lon.In 1991, William retired from the U.S. Chemical & Plastics Company at Canton where he served as the Director of Traffic and Distribution. Prior to that, he had worked for the Hoover Company and B & O Railroad.William was a member of Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia.He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Therese McEnroe, three children, Denise McEnroe-Ayers of New Philadelphia, Nanette (Peter) McEnroe-Talty of London, England and Lon (Wanda) McEnroe of New Philadelphia and his grandchildren, Cory, Danielle and Zachary Ayers and James and Andrew Talty.William was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Michelle and Rochelle McEnroe and two brothers, John Edward and Robert Irving McEnroe.Family and friends may call on Sunday, June 29, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with a Christian Wake service at 6:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 30, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia with Monsignor George Schlegel officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.William’s family would like to thank Hospice of Tuscarawas County for the exemplary care they showed for him and in return ask that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in his memory to the Hospice House c/o Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, OH 44622.
