William H. Oettinger

Rev. William “Bill” H. Oettinger, 96, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday morning, June 17, 2004 at his home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 8, 1907 in Buffalo, NY to the late William and Mildred (Gee) Oettinger. He graduated in 1928 from Bryant & Stratton Business College in Buffalo and, in 1958 from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, West Virginia. He also had attended God’s Bible School and College in Cincinnati. He Pastored at various churches in West Virginia then became an elementary school teacher and taught at several schools in Kanawha Co. West Virginia (Charleston area), including Putney, Witcher and Midland Trail, and was the recipient of a National Science Award for excellence in teaching elementary science. Rev. Oettinger was a member of the Emmanuel Church at New Philadelphia.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 2 sisters and an infant grandson.He is survived by his loving wife Madaline (Tittle) whom he married June 30, 1936, daughters, Dorcas (Kenneth) Brown of New Philadelphia and Eunice (Ralph) Gault of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sons, Daniel Oettinger of St. Catharines, Ontario and David (Grace) Oettinger of New Philadelphia; 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, including Melvin Hyler of Dover. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 21, 2004 at 1 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home of New Philadelphia with Rev. Alan Crawford officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial Park. Following the burial a reception will be held at the Geib Family Center. Visiting hours will be held Sunday 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home. Those unable to attend may visit an online memorial by visiting the funeral home’s web site. Memorial Donations can be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas Co. or the New Philadelphia Emmanuel Church.
