William Fetters

William J. Fetters, age 92, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in Union Hospital at Dover.Born at Dennison, Ohio on August 25, 1915, Bill was the son of the late John and Mary Hall Fetters.Bill was very fond of and was primarily raised by his paternal grandparents, William and Margaret Fetters.He attended Dennison High School and for a period of time worked for the Timken Company before being drafted into the United States Navy during World War II.While enlisted, he served as Machinist’s Mate Third Class and was involved in the Asiatic Pacific and Philippine Liberation campaigns where he was awarded six stars and eventually the Victory Medal.Following his tenure in the Navy, Bill joined the Babcock & Wilcox Company and worked there for 40 years.Bill was an avid fisherman and had the opportunity to fish in the United States from as far North as the Coast of Maine and as far South as the shores of Florida.Fishing wasn’t his only love however, after the loss of his wife, Jane; he remarried in July of 1976. Bill married Wilma Rausch and for 31 years the couple enjoyed camping in their RV, spending time with friends, ball room dancing and of course fishing.He is survived by four children, Patricia (Ralph) Anderson of New Philadelphia, Helen (Dennis) James of Florida, William A. (Sandy) Fetters also of Florida, and Richard (Roberta) Rausch of New Philadelphia; nine grandchildren, Randy, Dennis, and Rick Anderson, Tammy McGlaughin, Jason, Tommy and Amanda Endres, Tari Dachton, and Richard Rausch Jr.He will be sadly missed by his twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.In addition to his grandparents, parents and first wife, Bill is preceded in death by a half sister, Jane Price and two granddaughters.Visitation will be on Sunday, March 9, 2008, from 5:00 â?? 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia. Elder Glenn Carslile will lead the Fetters service on Monday, March 10, 2008, at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
