William F. Aubihl, age 85, of New Philadelphia, died Saturday, September 19, 2009, in New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover following a period of declining health. Born at Port Washington, Ohio on March 17, 1924, Bill was a son of the late Charles and Ida (Wherley) Aubihl.Upon graduation from New Philadelphia High School, Bill entered into the United States Army Air Corps. On a blind date, while stationed in England, during World War II, he met a young lady by the name of Muriel Higham. The two took an instant liking to one another and following a year of courtship married on November 10, 1945. Together, the couple would return to the Tuscarawas Valley where they would rear two children. For the next forty years Bill would work for the former I.F. Manufacturing of New Philadelphia ultimately retiring as the plant’s foreman. Bill was a longtime member of Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia, where he would serve a period of time as the church treasurer. Bill found great joy in sharing time with friends whom he met through his affiliation with the Tusco Traveleers Camping Club and as a member of the American Legion Post at New Philadelphia.Additionally, Bill was an accomplished carpenter and electrician who loved working on projects around his own home but was always proud when he could help others during Habitat for Humanity building projects.In addition to his wife of more than sixty years, Bill is survived by two sons, John (Carol) Aubihl of New Philadelphia and Jeff (Janet) Aubihl of Brenham, Texas; a sister, Frances Rummel as well as brother, Charles E. Aubihl both of Newcomerstown.Three grandchildren, Josh Aubihl, Joseph Aubihl, and Lacey Aubihl as well as numerous nieces and nephews complete the family.In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two infant brothers.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, from 5:00 â?? 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Bill Sowers will lead a memorial service celebrating Bill’s life in the Broadway United Methodist Church on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at 11:00 AM. Following the service, the family would like to invite guests to join them in the church social hall where a meal and fellowship will be shared.The family requests that memorial contributions in Bill’s name may be directed to Broadway United Methodist Church, 120 Church Street SE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
