William E. Lang

William E. Lang, 84, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 4, 2004 in Aultman Hospital. Mr. Lang was born in McKeesport, PA on August 25, 1919 to the late John and Lottie Burns Lang. His family relocated to New Philadelphia at the age of five, and for the remainder of his life, New Philadelphia was his home. From May 1944 through December 1945, William served in the United States Army as a Parts Clerk. Upon his discharge, he had received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal for World War II. William was a 1937 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. He worked as a truck driver and owned his own trucking company before he became affiliated with Warner & Swasey in 1952. He retired in 1982 after thirty years of service during which time he was active in the International Association of Mechanics. Mr. Lang was instrumental in the organization of the Warner & Swasey Employees Credit Union Â? now known as the Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends on a houseboat he kept docked on the Ohio River. Mr. Lang was active in the community having served as a scout leader while his son went through the Boy Scouts; he was also a past member of the B.P.O.E. # 510 in New Philadelphia.He and his wife, the former Clara Leach married on August 25, 1941 and together raised a family that includes daughters Clara Mae Gorby of Dover, Patricia Ann Smith of Cadiz, and Susan Ann (William) Seese of Strasburg, and a son Albert G. (Carole) Lang of Madison, Al. Mr. Lang was especially fond of his grandchildren, John (Nancy) Menapace of Dover, Ricky Menapace of Uhrichsville, Randy Menapace of Tuscarawas, Brenda Menapace of New York, William Menapace of Dennison, Toni King of Dover, William D. (Tippra) Seese of Canton, OH, and Dr. Sally (David) Dabney of Akron, OH as well as ten great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a half-sister, Lois Lang of Monroeville, PA, and half-brother, David (Judith) Lang of Charlotte, NC.Friends are invited to call Wednesday afternoon from 4 until 7 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory of New Philadelphia. The Reverend Bud Milligan will officiate Mr. Lang’s funeral Thursday afternoon at 2 PM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park where members of V.F.W. Post 1445 will render military honors. Following the committal service, a reception will be held in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
