William E. Crown, Sr.

William E. Crown Sr., 85, of Sherrodsville, died Wednesday, September 07, 2016 in Rose Lane Nursing Center at Massillon following a period of declining health.

A son of the late Clarence and Mary Crown, William was born July 1, 1931 at Dennison, Ohio.

Following his high school years, William served in the United States Army.  During his time in the Army, William served two tours of duty in Vietnam and one tour of duty in Korea.  He would eventually retire from the military after 27 years of service.

On August 10, 1953, William married the love of his life, the former Sara J. “Sally” Shaw and together they raised three children, Timothy, Amy and William Jr.  The couple shared 57 years of marriage prior to Sally’s passing on February 7, 2011.

William was an active member of the Veteran’s Service Commission in Carrollton as well as a member of American Legion Post # 475 in Dellroy.  He was an avid golfer and was quite proud of his model car and quarter collection.

He is survived by his children, Timothy (Kim) Crown of Houston, Texas, Amy Crown of Canton and William E. (fiancée, Kim Pearson) Crown Jr. of Sherrodsville; seven grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and his sister.

In keeping with William’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
