Gary Davis, 63, of Gnadenhutten, died Thursday afternoon, September 18, 2003, following a brief but courageous battle with Acute Monocyclic Leukemia.Born May 6, 1940 in Kingston, West Virginia, he was a son of Virginia Estell Hyden Davis and the late William Dallas Davis.Gary was raised in West Virginia, where he graduated from high school in 1959 from Collins High in Oak Hill, W.V. Gary worked in the tire test division of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in Akron, prior to a career-ending injury. Prior to working at Goodyear, he worked at the former Mechanical Mold & Machine, and Ace Machine Company of Cuyahoga Falls, O. He was a member of the Popular Rotorcraft Association, and the Local Chapter #1077, of the Experimental Aircraft Association.Gary was also a member of the National Rifle Association, and the American Bowling Congress. In fact, he was very proud to have bowled a 300 no tap game (nine strikes and three no-taps) in the Wednesday Bowling Gang on January 15, 2003 at Alpa Lanes in Uhrichsville. He loved talking and learning about aviation, from experimental aircraft to airports to air shows. He was a member of the Fence Pilot Association, a group of guys who got together in fellowship regularly at Harry Clever Field. Gary was also a talented musician who enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, the former Virginia Lee Owens Davis, whom he married June 26, 1960. Together, they raised a family that includes two sons, Keith A. Davis of Dover, and Bryan E. (Linda) Davis of Newcomerstown, a granddaughter, Emily Sue Davis, one step-grandson, Adam Glazer.Gary will be sadly missed by his brother, Glenn (Barbara) Davis, nieces Wendy (Charles) Derr, and Heather (Matthew) Brown and nephew Aaron D. Davis, all of Gnadenhutten, his brothers-in-law James R. Owens and Troy R. (Sherry) Owens, a niece Julie (Mike) King, and nephews Dwayne (Vicki) Owens and Todd (Rora) Owens, Troy (Michelle) Owens, Thimothy (Jeannie) Owens all of Akron. Friends may call Sunday, September 21, 2003 from 5 until 8 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, New Philadelphia. Pastor Roger Bourne will officiate funeral services Monday afternoon at 1:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Gnadenhutten-Clay-Union Cemetery in Gnadenhutten. Following the committal service, the family will host a meal at the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice, in memory of Mr. Davis, whose life in years was too short, but long on making beautiful music, and making his friends and family smile.
