William K. Caughey, 87, of Strasburg and beloved member of his community, passed away on February 20, 2025.

Born on May 22, 1937 in Canton, William was the son of the late James W. and Gwendolyn ”Dolly” (Wilhelm) Caughey and lived a life marked by service, commitment, and a deep sense of responsibility.

Following his graduation from high school, he immediately demonstrated his patriotic spirit by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. William served honorably carrying out his duties with courage and dedication. His military service was a significant part of his identity, instilling values of honor, sacrifice, and loyalty that he carried with him throughout his life.

After returning from his service, William embarked on a thirty-year career with both IGA and then with Fleming Foods in Massillon, as a truck driver. This role not only provided for his family but also allowed him to form lasting friendships and connections within the community. William’s dedication to his work was evident in his strong work ethic and the pride he took in doing his job well.

On May 31, 1969, William married Judy L. Wardell and together they shared over 55 years of marriage until his passing. Also surviving are his son, Jim (Renee) Caughey of Dover; his daughter, Colleen (Jonas) Hostetler of Fredericksburg; his six grandchildren, Adam, Emily, Olivia, Scotty, Elizabeth, Jordan and his youngest brother, Doug (Debbie) Caughey of Canton.

In addition to his parents, William was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Caughey and his brother, Butch Caughey.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation care is to be provided by the Geib Funeral Center at Dover and a gathering to celebrate William’s life will be held at a later date.
