William C. Armstrong

William C. “Bud’ Armstrong Sr., 73, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, September 23, 2002 in his home following an extended illness.Born in Midvale, he was the son of the late Samuel Marion and Florence Renicker Armstrong. He served as a Corporal with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired in 1991 after thirty-six years of service with the former Joy Manufacturing in New Philadelphia where he worked as a foundry worker.A former member of the Tri-County Model A Club and a former member of the Tuscarawas V.F.W., Bud loved to help others and had a wonderful sense of humor. He also enjoyed restoring and working on old cars, watching the Cleveland Indians, watching the deer and feeding the birds in his yard and attending flea markets and swap meets with his sons.Surviving is his wife, the former Shirley Kerns, with whom he celebrated his 49th wedding anniversary on June 27th. Also surviving are a daughter, Linda (William) Barcus of Dover; two sons, William C. “Buck” (Sherry) Armstrong Jr. of Strasburg and Kevin (Astra) Armstrong of New Philadelphia; a granddaughter, Mandy K. Barcus, of Schenectady, New York; three sisters, Jane Long of Gnadenhutten; Shirley (Robert) Kelly of Strasburg and Dorothy Armstrong of Mineral City; two brothers, Marion (Jo Ann) Armstrong of Dennison and James (Virginia) Armstrong or Uhrichsville and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Barcus is also deceased.Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 26, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with Pastor Hombre Liggett officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Visitation will be held Wednesday, (Today) September 25, 2002 from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, Ohio, 44622.
