William A. Yoder, age 83, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, October 12, 2009, in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.A son of the late Dwight and Myrtle (Schindler) Yoder, Bill was born in the area of Sugarcreek, Ohio which was formerly known as Shanesville on December 16, 1925.Bill graduated from Timken High School at Canton in 1943. The following February he entered into the United States Navy where he was stationed at an ammunition facility in Utah during World War II. Upon his return home, Bill would serve the next thirty years as a machinist for Mercier Tool & Die of Canton, Ohio ultimately retiring in January of 1988.Bill was an avid woodworker and also enjoyed camping at Atwood Lake. Additionally Bill was a coin enthusiast and enjoyed the fellowship of those he met through an area coin club.Bill leaves behind a longtime companion Ruth Weber of New Philadelphia; Ruth’s son, who he raised as his own, Ron (Connie) Weber also of New Philadelphia; a sister, Claribel Osman of Canton; a niece Barbara (Jack) Altenburger of Toledo, Ohio; and a nephew, Thomas (Bonna) Osman of Canton.Two granddaughters, Lori Weber and Jennifer Weber; three great-grandchildren as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews complete the family.The family will receive friends on Friday, October 16, from 1:00 � 3:00 P.M. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Paul Haudashelt will lead a service celebrating Bill’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Friday at 3:00 P.M. Cremation will follow with the family to hold private burial services in the East Lawn Cemetery at Sugarcreek at a later date.
