William A. Gerber, 70, of Dover, died Friday morning, March 2, 2007, in Hennis Care Centre at Dover.A son of the late Andrew A. and Mary E. (Bartholomew) Gerber, William was born on January 18, 1937, in Dover, Ohio. After completing his high school education at Dover High School, and graduating from Bolivar High School, he honorably served our country in the United States Navy. From there, he joined the work force, most recently employed by Newton Asphalt as a truck driver.William spent much of his time involved in the Dover Zoar Road Gun Club as a honorary member, the Tuscarawas County Saddle Club for many years, and he started the Tuscarawas County Mounted Patrol where he was its first captain.His family and church relationships were of greatest importance. He attended both the First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia and the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover.He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Gerber Cline; sons, William A. (Norma) Gerber II of Thomasville, Georgia, Robert John (Cathy) Gerber of New Philadelphia; daughters, June Ann Farnsworth, and Wendy Sue Gerber of Dover; grandchildren, Brittney Gerber, Brooke Gerber, William A. Gerber III, Hannah Gerber, Sara Gerber, Mary Ellen Gerber; step-granddaughters, Kandace Hobbs, Amanda Doorman; step-great granddaughter, Madison Williams; brother, Herman “Chip” (Sharon) Gerber; sisters, Anna Kaiser and Norma (Paul) Dear.In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by brother, Harold Gerber.Visitation will be held Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Ave. at Dover. A service celebrating William’s life will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Mark Trotter officiating. Burial will follow at Ruslin Hills Cemetery in Dover Township with Dover V. F. W. Post #3463 rendering military honors. Following the committal service, friends are invited back to the Geib Funeral Center where a luncheon will be served in the Hospitality Center. The family requests memorial contributions in William’s memory be made to either Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd Street, Dover, OH 44622 or to the Tuscarawas County Friends of the Homeless, P. O. Box 466, 211 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
