Willard James Haney, age 81, of Morning View Care Center at New Philadelphia died peacefully late Sunday evening, April 10, 2005. Born at Goshen January 24, 1924, Willard was a son of the late Willard and Esther Hill Haney Sr. Following graduation from Goshen School in 1943, Willard joined the United States Army serving in the European Theater from October 1943 until his discharge in January, 1946. During his service, Willard earned the Europe, Africa, Middle East Service Medal with three bronze stars, the Victory and the Good Conduct Medals. Willard will be remembered as a remarkable father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether in helping neighbors with outside chores, or in pleasure pursuits tending to his magnificent rose gardens. A familiar face around auctions, Willard regularly purchased goods that would help other people. His generosity will be long remembered by those who knew him best. His family includes his four sons; Robert (Pat) Haney of Uhrichsville, Tim(Cynthia) Haney of New Philadelphia, Terry (Roberta) Haney of Dover, and Craig (Lisa) Haney of Dover, grandchildren; Mike (Alicia) Haney of Bowerston, Nicole (Ian) Shafer of Tippecanoe, Josh Rader, Ryan Haney, and Taylor Haney, all of Dover, Amy (Matt) Harding of New Philadelphia, Mindy (Tom) Hardman of Stone Creek, and Kerry (Russ) Erwin Jr. of New Philadelphia, ten great-grandchildren; Kristin and Alex Haney, Aaron and Nick Shafer, Tori and Kaci Blacka, Russ Erwin III, Ashdon and Austen Bailey, and Kerianne Hardman, two sisters, Faye (Ralph) Shidaker, and Esther Mae (Dave) Cox , all of New Philadelphia, a brother; Dean (Alice) Haney of Dover, and special friends, Barb and Ed Owens of Wadsworth. In addition to his parents, Willard was preceded in death by an infant daughter; Evelyn Haney, brothers; William and Robert Haney, and a grandson; Derek Haney.Pastor Larry Fletcher will lead a graveside service Friday morning, April 15, 2005, at 11 AM in Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery where members of the Tuscarawas VFW will render military honors. Following the committal service, the congregation of First Assembly of God will host a reception for family and friends in the church fellowship hall at 742 Cookson Avenue SE in New Philadelphia. In keeping with Mr. Haney’s wishes, cremation will be conducted through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. There will be no public calling hours.
