September 17, 1940 — May 14, 2006

Wendell “Nelson” Landis, age 65, of Dundee, died peacefully early Sunday morning, May 14, 2006 in his residence with his family at his side. Born at Dundee on September 17, 1940, he was a son of the late Omer Edmund and Lucille Alvena Jeandrevin Landis. Better known as Nelson throughout his life, he grew up in Dundee and graduated from the first class of the Garaway School District following consolidation in the late 1950’s. Nelson was a lifelong resident of the area and was well regarded as a firefighter and emergency medical technician for the Dundee Volunteer Fire Department, having formerly served as fire chief. Mr. Landis was instrumental in the organization of the Dundee community bloodmobile program, and in training junior firefighters. Nelson was a thirty-eight year veteran of Dover Cryogenics Â? also known as AMKO Service Company where he retired as shop foreman. When not working or firefighting, Mr. Landis enjoyed working on his home, where his skills as a carpenter and mechanic were put to good use. He loved his family very much, and was especially fond of his grandchildren, who will have many good memories of adventures on back country roads, where their grandpa would pull over and describe the farm animals they encountered. Survivors include his loving wife, the former Dorothy Cline. The couple wed July 16, 1961 and would have celebrated their forty-fifth anniversary in just eight weeks. Together Dorothy and Nelson reared a family of three sons, Jeff Landis of Dundee, the late Brian Landis, and Tim (wife Lisa) Landis of Woodvine, Georgia. He’ll be sadly missed by his grandchildren Bryce Nelson Landis, Briana Lee Landis, Anthony Myles Landis, and Angelina Marcel Landis, his step-grandson Dale Lendon, and two youngsters he regarded as grandchildren, Chelsea Buckley and Brett Berger.
