Wayne A. Smith, 46, New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Union Hospital in Dover.A son of Verna M. Sanders Smith and the late Charles Alvin Smith, Wayne was born December 26, 1957 in Canton, OH. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed a variety of activities, especially fishing. He was a member of the First Church of God in New Philadelphia.Wayne is survived by his wife, the former Karen Sue Reiger, whom he married on December 4, 1989; son, David C. Bennett of Tennessee; step-daughter, Renee Michelle Reiger Sanders of Tuscarawas; step-granddaughter, Lauren Renee Sanders; brothers William Smith, Chuck (Missy) Smith, and Jeremy Smith and his fiancée Caren Eichel; sisters, Dotty Smith and her fiancé Larry Miller, and Janice (Larry) Short; many nieces and nephews, including Nicole Short, Keri Short, Austin Short, Curtis Taggart, Alex Smith, Elyssa Miller, Logan Smith, and Tyler and Jonathan Eichel; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends including Shirley Paulus and Art Winkler. In addition to his father, Wayne was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn Smith,Pastor Matt Roe will lead Mr. Smith’s funeral service Thursday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory of New Philadelphia. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until the beginning of the service. Burial will follow at Dover Burial Park. Following the committal service, members of the First Church of God will host a reception in their fellowship hall at 824 Tuscarawas Avenue NW in New Philadelphia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne Smith Memorial Fund at National City Bank, 245 West High Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
