Vivian “Viv” Flanagan, age 49, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Sunday morning, July 1, 2007, in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a weeklong battle with coronary difficulties.Born at Dover, October 1, 1957, she was a daughter of the late Betty J. Wires Spano and Tony Spano. Viv attended New Philadelphia High School as a young lady, and was well liked for her affectionate smile and laugh. On Valentines Day, 1976, she married her longtime friend Gordon “Punk” Flanagan, Jr., of New Philadelphia. For the next thirty-one years, the two enjoyed one another’s company Â? by traveling across the country touring 45 states and five Canadian provinces with their friends from the Blue Knights. Many will remember Viv for her cheerful greetings during the thirteen years she worked as a cashier and ultimately manager of the Dover Circle K, (formerly Dairy Mart). At the time of her death, she worked at the Dollar General Market at Uhrichsville.In addition to her husband, Viv is survived by two daughters, Amy (John) Bainter of Strasburg, and April Caldwell of New Philadelphia. Viv’s star role was grandmother to three precious grandchildren, Gordon “Gordey” Caldwell, Tyler Bainter, and Mary Ann Caldwell Â? all of whom she adored and enjoyed spoiling. Viv will be sadly missed by her sisters, Pam (Joe) Rennicker of New Philadelphia, Barb (Victor) Hursey of Dennison, Linda (Gary) Haney of New Philadelphia, a brother, Larry (Kay) Whitlach of Dover, three sisters-in-law, Ruth Ledrich of New Philadelphia, Carol (Dave) Cihon of New Philadelphia, Linda (Tom) Bates of Hanover, brothers-in-law, Bob (Connie) Flanagan, of Dover, and Doc (Nancy) Flanagan of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Many nieces, nephews and cousins complete the family. In addition to her parents, Viv was preceded in death by her sisters Joyce Tollotti and Nancy Rae Ritenour, and a granddaughter, Sarah Flanagan. Friends are invited to call Thursday, July 5, from 2-4 PM and from 6-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Rev. Steven Court will lead a funeral celebrating Vivian’s life Friday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service a reception will be held in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
