Vivian Eileen Blackstone

Vivian Eileen Blackstone, age 81, of Bolivar, died late Saturday evening, September 16, 2006 at Bolivar. Born at Columbus, Ohio, October 5, 1924, Vivian was a daughter of the late Selby Murphy and Ruth Moore Murphy. She was valedictorian of her class and a 1942 graduate of Buchtel High School in Athens County. A homemaker her entire life, Vivian was twice widowed, by Lt. Gerald J. Forbes of the Ohio State Highway Patrol in 1978 and later by her second husband, Retired Colonel Frank R. Blackstone, also of the Highway Patrol, whom she married in 1982. Vivian enjoyed the warmer weather of Florida’s Gulf Coast for many years in her home at Venice. There, she was active in a bowling league, and with her friends played bingo, and enjoyed crocheting. Vivian also enjoyed bus tours to various destinations throughout the south. As her health declined, Vivian relocated to Hennis Care Centre at Bolivar to reside near her daughter, Marcia, and her husband Dean Burky, in whose home she died Saturday evening. Her family also includes a son, Mark and his wife, Judy Forbes of Leesburg, Florida. Three grandsons, Robert (Biljana) Forbes of Columbus, Ohio, Michael (Ann) Burky of Mt. Vernon and Scott (Kate) Burky of Dover, as well as two great-grandchildren, Dannielle Burky and Jozlyn Burky of Mount Vernon, complete the family. In addition to her parents, and husbands, Mrs. Blackstone was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene, Fred and Walter Murphy and two sisters, Mary Lou Cline and Bonnie Whatley. Cremation has been arranged through the care of the Geib Funeral and Cremation Center at Dover. No calling hours or public services are planned.
