Vivian Anne Barr, 97, of Dover, died Sunday, April 20, 2014 in Park Village Health Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Ora and Ida (Emig) Hawk, Vivian was born June 4, 1916 at Canton, Ohio.
Vivian graduated from the University of Akron with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Education. She was a long time school teacher in various school districts and retired from Stow School District with almost 40 years of total service. She was also a member of First Lutheran Church at Strasburg.
She is survived by a son, Gary (Gayle) Barr of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Richardson of Massillon and Alice Williams of Farmington, Michigan and three brothers, Gene Hawk and John Hawk both of Strasburg and William Hawk of Canton.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester Barr, Jr. whom she married on August 20, 1942; a daughter, Cheryl Lee and three brothers, Dale, Bray and Melvin Hawk.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 North Wooster Avenue, Dover, OH 44622. A funeral service will be held on Thursday April 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church at Strasburg with her son, The Rev. Gary A. Barr, CD Maj (Ret.) officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Following the committal service a luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall at the church.
