Virginia L. Ohler, age 81, of Barnhill, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon in Riverside Manor Nursing Center at Newcomerstown.
Born March 9, 1931, atop Goshen Hill in Goshen Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late John O. and Ethyl M. Burkey Fisher.
Virginia was a 1949 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.
A familiar face in the Tuscarawas Valley to travelers and local diners alike, Virginia worked as a restaurant waitress for many years at the former Delphian Motor Inn, and later for Kenny and Louise Espenschied at Espenschied’s Restaurant.
She was a lifelong member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia, and was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the former Midvale VFW. Her memberships also included the former New Philadelphia Moose Lodge.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan (husband, Bill) Byers of Port Washington, as well as her daughter-in-law, Sun-Hui Ohler of Richmond, Kentucky.
She’ll be sadly missed by three grandchildren; Scott (wife, Robyn) Ohler of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Chae Dennis of Richmond, Kentucky, and Sarah (husband Derek) Bailey of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, as well as five great-grandchildren; Tyler and Tresson Ohler, Kristen and Kandice Dennis and Breonna Bailey.
Three step-grandchildren; William “Bill” (wife, Jen) Byers IV of Lewis Center, OH, David (wife, Brooke) Byers of Hilliard, OH, and Crystal (husband, Brandon) Moore of North Canton, and six step-great-grandchildren; William “Bill” Byers V, Evan Byers, Lucas and Sophie Byers and Adylin and Aedon Moore, also survive.
In addition to her parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Kenneth E. Ohler, who passed away in November, 1999, her son, Steven Ohler in 1998, a sister, Wilma Briggs, and four brothers, Bob, Earl, Marion and Willard Fisher.
Friends are invited to call Saturday afternoon from 1-2 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Tim McCollum will lead Virginia’s funeral service Saturday at 2 in the funeral home’s chapel.
Burial will follow, alongside her husband, in Evergreen Burial Park.
