Virginia E. Davis, 93, of Gnadenhutten passed away in the Community Hospice House Sunday morning, January 11, 2015.
Born in a coal camp in Kingston, West Virginia, on November 1, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William C. and Lula Jane (Armstrong) Hyden.
On December 16, 1939, Virginia married her childhood sweetheart, the late William D. Davis. Together, they celebrated 61 years of blessed marriage before his passing in 2001.
Virginia worked for a period of time for Kent State University as a housekeeper. She was at lunch when the disturbances occurred on May 4, 1970, and was unable to retrieve her car for 3 days. In 1972, she moved to Tuscarawas County and was active in genealogy and her family history. Virginia also enjoyed making quilts and sewing projects. Most importantly, she loved caring for and supporting her family and was a generous spirit to all who needed something.
She was a member of the EAA Chapter #1077 alongside her son, Glenn.
Virginia is survived by her son, Glenn (Barbara) Davis of Gnadenhutten; her grandchildren, Wendy (Chuck) Derr, Heather (Matt) Brown, Aaron (Lisa) Davis, Bryan (Linda) Davis, and Keith Davis; her great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Logan Brown, Jackie Derr, Evan, Liam, and Emily Davis; her sisters, Minnie Milliken, Lorraine Osburn, Joetta Light, and Gloria Wallace; and special friends, Phil and Charlotte Wolfe, and Darla Orr.
In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her son, William Gary Davis who passed away in 2003; her brothers, Basil, Carl, and Russell Hyden; and her sister, Leona Gray.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating her life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Thursday beginning at 11 am with Pastor John Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Gnadenhutten Clay Union Cemetery.
Friends are invited to the EAA Hangar at Harry Clever Airport, 1808 East High Ave., New Philadelphia, following the committal service to share in a meal.
