Victor E. Paris, age 85, of Dover, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, July 1, 2008, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born at Roswell, March 8, 1923, he was a son of the late Louis and Ida Graham Paris. Victor left his studies at Midvale High School his senior year to join the United States Army. He served with the 795th Anti-aircraft Artillery Weapons Battalion in Normandy, France. Mr. Paris also served with General George Patton in the 3rd Army, and earned the Army Occupation Medal with the Germany Clasp and five Battle Stars. Mr. Paris was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Forester’s. He also held lifetime membership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1445 at New Philadelphia. Mr. Paris was a retired machinist, having worked for Republic Steel at Massillon for thirty-two years before his retirement in 1974. He also worked previously with his father in a family owned coal mine, as well as the Hartz Coal Mine. Always one to stay busy, Mr. Paris built and sold several homes in the Dover and New Philadelphia area. Construction was a family affair and each member of the family would have special duties, all to be approved by the meticulous eye of Mr. Paris. Later in life, he enjoyed driving cars between auto auctions for the Ferris and Parkway dealerships.In his spare time Victor would enjoy boating, especially waterskiing on Tappan Lake. His family will cherish memories made over summer vacations and special trips to visit out of town relatives. Many will miss the homemade wine he bottled and shared with friends. Prior to going off to war, Mr. Paris met and fell in love with Cecilia M. Bianchi. He left for Europe having become engaged. One month to the day following his discharge he married Cecilia, on February 2, 1946. Together they celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary earlier this year. Together, Victor and Cecilia reared a family that includes five daughters and a son; Vicki (husband Frank) Fuerst of Dover, Kay (husband Paul) Lunsford of New Philadelphia, Edward (wife Ginny) Paris of Dover, Pamela (husband Craig) Beller of Dover, Yvonne Reed of New Philadelphia, and Kim (husband Mike) Maurer of Dover. Nine grandchildren; Melissa (husband Micah) Wissman, Tawnya Paris, Victor J. Paris, Natalie (husband Shane) Troyer, Carl Beller, Alex Reed, and Matt Maurer, two great-grandchildren; Micah and Cecilia Wissman; a sister, Gloria (husband Jack) Dallau of Dover, and a sister-in-law, Wanda Paris of New Philadelphia, complete the family. In addition to his parents, Victor is preceded in death by his brother, Louis Paris. Friends are invited to call Thursday, July 3, 2008 from 4PM to 7PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Christian Wake services will commence at 7PM. Monsignor George J. Schlegel will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, July 5, at 10:30AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, New Philadelphia where military graveside services will be rendered by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 1445. Following the committal service, family and friends will gather for a reception in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website.
