Vicki Sue Clay, 38, a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, died Monday evening, March 21, 2005, in her New Philadelphia home surrounded by her family.Born April 18, 1966 in Dover, Vicki is a daughter of Robert A. and Judy M. (Miller) Metz of New Philadelphia. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School in 1984, she continued her formal education at the former Idabelle Firestone School of Nursing in Akron where she obtained a degree in nursing in 1986. In 1988, Vicki began her life as a devoted wife to Jac A.Clay and started her career as a registered nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit at Aultman Hospital. She had a soft spot in her heart for both babies and cats throughout her life. While at Aultman, she participated as a member of the bereavement support group caring for infant’s families. Vicki’s upbeat and positive attitude allowed her to overcome many obstacles throughout her lifetime. Worshipping at the Faith Christian Church in New Philadelphia was an extremely important part of her spiritual journey.Those who knew Vicki will forever remember her as a person who loved life. Her heart overflowed with selflessness and passion for the well-being of others and friends. Frequently, Vicki cooked food to give to her neighbors, arranged neighborhood cook-outs, and planned parties for others. Vicki also enjoyed listening to music, both live bands and recorded music, roller-skating, playing pool, and going out for a nice meal with her family. She also took great joy in the past as a hostess for Pampered Chef and as a jewelry consultant for Premiere Designs. Vicki will be greatly missed by her family and friends whom she made smile daily. Together with her husband, Jac, whom she wed at Broadway United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia on July 9, 1988, she raised two children, Lauren Nicole and Nicholas Logan, of the home. She is also survived by her parents; her sister, Cindi Couts and James Couts of New Philadelphia; her grandmother, Ireta L. Miller Mann, of New Philadelphia; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca (Ron) Budic and Teresa (Jeff) Durbin, both of North Canton; a brother-in-law, Jon (Sheila) Clay of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; nieces, Jennifer (Mason) Brown, Jessica Budic, and Diane Durbin, all of North Canton, and and Erin Clay of Chicago; nephews, Alex Couts of New Philadelphia, Trevor (Laura) Clay of Chicago, and Luke Durbin and Ted Durbin, both of North Canton; a great-niece and great-nephew, Brett and Sedona Clay; uncles, Dave (Suzi) Metz of Lakeland, Florida, and Jim (Cathy) Metz of Fort Mill, South Carolina; an aunt, Shirley (Clarence) Smitley of New Philadelphia; and numerous friends.Vicki is now in heaven with her infant son, Logan Allen, her grandparents, John and Marian Metz and Earl A. Miller, and her mother and father-in-law, Alfred H. and Betty J. Clay, all who preceded her in death.Visitation will be held Friday, March 25, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m. at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Vicki’s life will be held Saturday, March 26, at the funeral home’s chapel in New Philadelphia at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Dover Burial Park.
