Vernon E. Furbay, 84, of New Philadelphia, passed away Friday, July 10, 2015 at Riverside Manor Nursing home following a period of declining health.
Born in Stillwater on September 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Alvin Waldron Furbay and Susie Mae (Lindon) Furbay.
Vernon joined the United States Navy where he honorably served his country. Upon returning he found his love for carpentry, and retired from the Carpenters and Millwright Union. He was also a member and supporter of the Disabled American Veterans.
In his free time Vernon enjoyed farming, and was a big coin and antique collector. Watching sports was another favorite, basketball, football, and baseball, you name it he was watching it. He loved spending time with those that he cared about.
He will be missed by his best friend Dorothy Furbay of New Philadelphia; his good friend, Donny Unger of Gnadenhutten; his children, Charles (Ann) Furbay of Texas, Penny (Fred) Caldwell of New Philadelphia; his brother, Walt Furbay of Texas; his six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and his dog “Bear”.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Naomi; his daughter, Pamela Sue Furbay; and his dog “Snowball”.
In keeping with Vernon’s wishes burial will be cared for through Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Homes & Crematory in New Philadelphia.
