Verna Mae Starr, age 76, of Gnadenhutten, died peacefully early Sunday evening, December 23, 2007, in the Country Club Nursing Home of Mt. Vernon, Ohio.Born in Ohio, April 20, 1931, Verna was a daughter of the Late Lloyd J. and Carrie Mae Frye Turney. Verna was a 1950 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.She was employed by the former Great Plains Bag Company. A long time member of First Presbyterian Church at New Philadelphia, Verna was a former volunteer at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.Survivors include her daughter Susan (Richard) Shear of Dalzell, South Carolina, daughter Valerie (John) Kesman of Utica, Ohio, and son Tracy Jones, also of Utica. Her family also includes four grandchildren, Kristal (Kenny) Salts of Columbus, Ohio, Brion Wagner of Dover, Racheal (Jeff) Williams of Sumter, south Carolina, and Carrie (Donald) Ploger of Kentucky. Four great grandchildren, Logan Ploger, Rena Williams, Kyle Salts, and Kassie Salts complete the family.In addition to her parents, Verna is preceded in death by her husband John Starr on August 10, 2002, 4 sisters, Marge Maxwell, Evelyn Guisinger, Gean Bricker, and Shirley Milligan, and 1 brother. Friends are invited to call Wednesday, December 26, 2007, from 2-4 & 6-8, in the Linn- Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Dick Greenwood will lead the Starr funeral Thursday afternoon at 1:30PM in the funeral home’s chapel.
