Vera Sue Wilson, 76, a life-long resident of Midvale, died Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia after a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late George and Myrtle Almeda (Waltz) Wilson, Vera was born January 4, 1942 at Midvale, Ohio.
Vera graduated in 1960 from the former Midvale High School. Following her graduation, Vera started a career as a pharmacy technician at H&A Drug Store and Union Hospital where she retired after 23 years of service.
Vera also had a role as councilwoman on the Midvale Village Council from 1990-1999 and later became mayor of Midvale from 2000-2016. Vera had a life-long passion of bringing growth and unity to the village of Midvale by playing an instrumental role in the annual Christmas parades, Senior Luncheons and the Midvale Miner’s Festival.
Aside from her political positions, Vera enjoyed playing and coaching softball with the Midvale VFW and Midvale Estates Women’s Softball League. She also loved caring for her family, cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Indians and being a member of the former Midvale VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Vera is survived by her niece and caregiver, Linda Fox of Midvale; a nephew, Nick (Cheryl) Colletti of Uhrichsville; her sisters-in-law, Helen Wilson and Helen Waltz both of Midvale; and many other family members.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margaret Colletti, Mary King, Betty Creager, Woneta Quillen and Patricia Ann Wilson; and two brothers, George Wilson and Donald Waltz.
The family will greet guests on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 5 -8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Vera’s life will be led by Pastor Brian Flood on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
