Vera Myers

Vera Rose Myers, age 100, of Park Village Health Care Center, Dover, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019.

Born on February 22, 1918, Vera was born at Sand Coulee, Montana a daughter of the late James F. and Josephine Downing DeBois.

Following her graduation from high school, Vera furthered her education at Meredith Business College. On July 18, 1942, she married George E. Myers, Sr. together the couple shared in 48 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1991.

As a toddler, Vera was stricken with and remarkably survived with Polio. While her left leg was left impacted by the virus, she never allowed her disability to slow her down. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia where she was a member of the Altar Society. She was an avid reader who also loved cooking and collecting recipes.

Surviving are a son, Charles (Carol) Allese of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Grace DeMonte of Dover and Helen Casper of Canton.

In addition to her parents and husband, Vera was preceded in death by a son, George E. Myers, Jr., and her siblings, Jack, Paul, Florine, Fred, Frank, Erma, Gladys and Teresa.

The family will greet guests on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 10 – 10:45 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11 AM in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following services, all are invited a meal in St. Ambrose Hall, adjacent to the church.
