Vera Ellwood

Vera M. Ellwood, age 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully early Tuesday afternoon, April 13, 2010, in her home. Born at Coshocton, Ohio, December 14, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Frank H. and Clara Maxwell Caley. While still a teenager, Vera and her family relocated to Dover where she met and fell in love with John Ellwood. The couple wed December 20, 1947. Mr. Ellwood passed away just days prior to their fiftieth wedding anniversary on December 8, 1997. A member of Faith Christian Church at New Philadelphia, Vera worked at the former Tope’s Office Supply, Nichol’s Department Store, and H.C. Spring Electric. She was a faithful member of Curves at New Philadelphia, attending daily until illness prevented her from attending last autumn. She leaves behind a family that includes her son, Jeffrey E. (wife, Sue) Ellwood, and her daughter, Johnalee L. (husband, Michael) Duda, all of New Philadelphia. Two granddaughters; Kiley K. (husband, P. Mitchell) Kendall of Louisville, Kentucky, Kasey L. Duda of New Philadelphia, three step-grandsons, three great-grandson; John, Kyle, and Max Kendall, nine step-great-grandchildren, a sister; Ireta Miller-Mann of New Philadelphia, also survives. Special friends Pat Munn of Magnolia, Saunie and Dalton McInturf, New Philadelphia, as well as Charles and Nancy Wasylik of Dover, complete Vera’s family. In addition to her parents and husband, Vera is preceded in death by her brothers Ed and Carl Caley. Friends are invited to call Friday morning from 10AM Â? 11AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Brian Flood will officiate funeral services Friday morning at 11 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial, alongside her husband, will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens. Following the committal service, a luncheon reception will be given in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.
