Velna A. Murphy

Velna A. Murphy, 88, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, February 8, 2002 at Hennis Care Centre in Dover.Born in New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Alva S. and Bertha Mae Linard Johnston. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, the Faith Circle and a member of the Royal Neighbors for over fifty years.Her husband, the late Howard W. “Pete” Murphy precedes her in death. Surviving are two sons, Rev. Jerry L. (Lois) Murphy of Cincinnati and Dr. John H. (Susan) Murphy of Stow; a brother, John J. Johnston of Canton; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A sister is also deceased.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia with Rev. Harry Milligan officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. A reception will be held in the Geib Family Center following the committal. Visitation will be held Monday, February 11, 2002 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.
