Velma Gladys Gibbs

Velma Gladys Gibbs, 75, of New Philadelphia, died unexpectedly on Sunday, May 25 2008 in her home.A daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Cook) Shear, Velma was born December 29, 1932 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.Velma was an avid volunteer with the Salvation Army and along with her late husband, Raymond, she enjoyed collecting glassware.She is survived by three sons, Leslie Murphy of Brightwood, Richard (Debbie) Murphy of Brightwood and Walter Murphy of New Philadelphia; a daughter, Dorothy (Dave) Crowder of Gnadenhutten; three step-sons, William Gibbs of Old Hickory, Tennessee, Daniel Gibbs of Columbus, Georgia and Jon Gibbs of Eastlake, Ohio; two step-daughters, Dianne (Gaines) Dinkens of Kent, Ohio and Melinda (Keith) Wilson of Nashville, Tennessee; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren and one brother, Carl Long of Kent, Ohio.Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Raymond D. Gibbs; a son, James Murphy; two brothers and two sisters.Family and friends may call on Thursday, May 29, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Velma’s life will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Elder Glenn Carlisle officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
