Veda E. (Spring) McKerrihan, 86, of New Philadelphia passed away Monday, Sept. 26 at New Dawn Nursing Care Center in Dover.A former resident of South Broadway and Hummel Avenue in New Philadelphia, she had resided at New Dawn since 1999.Born Nov. 10, 1918, the daughter of the late Howard Raymond and Zada Caroline Angel Spring, she grew up in Oldtown Valley, south of New Philadelphia, and was a 1936 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.In 1939, she married Donald H. Lahmers, a 1932 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. They celebrated their 40th anniversary in 1979 and he died in March 1980.In 1984, she married Edward J. McKerrihan of New Philadelphia, who passed away in January 2000.Prior to retirement, she had worked in the retail field in downtown New Philadelphia at Montgomery Ward and the Diamond Shop Jewelers.She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Oldtown Valley and its Ladies Aid, and the New Philadelphia chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Ladies Auxiliary of the B.P.O.E. # 510 of New Philadelphia. An avid bridge player, Mrs. McKerrihan belonged to a bridge group that met regularly for many years. Survivors include her son, D. Kenneth Lahmers of Kent; stepson Jerry E. (Cindy) McKerrihan of Tallmadge; stepdaughter Linda L. Miller of Akron; step grandson Todd (Laura) Miller; step great-grandchildren Brianna, Alyssa and Blake Miller, and Kelly and Kevin McKerrihan; brothers Gerald R. (Ruth) Spring of New Philadelphia and Howard A. (Bonnie) Spring of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Eastern Star Services will be conducted at 7:45. The Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead funeral services Thursday morning at 11 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. Following the committal service, a reception will be given for family and friends in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 3640 Oldtown Valley Road SW, PO Box 336, Tuscarawas, OH 44682.
