Treva Strawn-Urfer

Treva Strawn-Urfer, age 93, of Hennis Care Center at Bolivar, died on Saturday, January 12, 2008 surrounded by her loving family and after accomplishing everything she wanted to do in life.Treva was born at Uhrichsville, Ohio on March 8, 1914 to the late Clyde & Ella Russell Mills.At the age of 17, Treva married Donald J. Strawn, and together the couple reared three children. Treva and Donald enjoyed an exciting life together. She was known as an impeccable housekeeper who enjoyed cooking, sewing and traveling. The family reminisced spending many summers together at Atwood Lake, where fishing, boating and spending time with friends were enjoyed by all. Later, the couple purchased the Boat Concession at Leesvile Lake and operated it for a period of time. The Strawn family lost Donald in 1972 following forty years of marriage.Losing Donald did not stop the energetic Treva, she became active in the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens Bowling League where she won many trophies and for a period of time was the Director of the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens Pantomime Band.After some time, Treva married Niles Urfer and together they celebrated over thirty years of marriage. Treva and Niles loved to camp together. They were notorious for purchasing new cars simply when the mood struck them right.In addition to Niles, Treva is survived by a son and a daughter, Bill (Rev. Janice) Strawn of Bolivar, and Lynda (Art) Poorman of Canton; a daughter in law, Sandra Strawn of Sherrodsville; three step children, Linda (Jim) Hupp of New Philadelphia, Nancy (Mike) Green of Massillon and Niles (Sheryl) Urfer of Florida.Those also surviving are two brothers, James (Mina) Legg, and Dean (Donna) Legg; three sisters-in-law, Lilly Mills, Vonnie Legg, and Beverly Legg as well as several nieces and nephews, to whom she was very close. Completing the family are nine grandchildren, Chris (Bonnie) Strawn, Robyn (J.B.) Nelson, Abby Nicsinger, Kipp (Maria) Strawn, Craig (Maribelle) Strawn, Penny (Marvin) Fox, Art (Kim) Poorman, Jr., Natalie (Joe) Shuss and Jacci Strawn; thirty one great-grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren, thirty step grandchildren, thirteen step great-grandchildren, and one step great-great grandchild.Including her parents and her first husband, Donald, those who precede Treva in death are a son, John “Jack” Strawn; a sister, Donna Swisshelm; and four brothers, Robert Mills, Bill Mills, Donald Legg, and Jack Legg.The family will receive friends in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. A service remembering Treva’s life will be led by the Rev. Janice Strawn, Pastor of the Church of the Open Door at Sandyville, on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 beginning at 11:00 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. A committal service will follow in the New Cumberland Cemetery at New Cumberland. Following the committal, the family would like to invite guests to join them for a time of food and fellowship in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Treva’s name be made to either the Salvation Army at Dover, PO BOX 357, Dover, Ohio 44622 or to the Nazir Grotto 1717 Sixth Street SW, Canton, OH 44706-1203.
