Treva Faye Yockey, age 87, of Canal Fulton, and formerly a forty-four year resident of Gnadenhutten, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon in the Hanover House at Massillon. Born at New Philadelphia, December 30, 1918, Treva was one of three children born to the late Charles Reif and his wife Ada L. Peters Reif. Treva was a 1937 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. On September 2, 1942, Treva married the late John T. “Talmage” Yockey. The couple settled at Gnadenhutten where they owned and operated the former Yockey Hardware there and at Newcomerstown. Treva kept busy working with her husband, but also as a department store clerk, and as a waitress at the former Wig-Wom restaurant at Gnadenhutten. From her home, she sold Tupperware and was a well-known Avon saleslady. Despite her busy schedule, Treva managed to always keep an excellent home for her family. A devoted member of the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church, Treva served on a variety of church committees, and was a longtime member, and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star at Port Washington. At home, Treva always had a project which involved sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidering, and quilting. She has made many, many afghans and beautiful quilts for members of her family, and for her close friends to enjoy. Her hobbies also included reading, playing cards, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and most of all, playing Bingo!Treva’s family includes a son, the late Larry D. Yockey Â? who preceded his mother in death in 1994. Survivors include Treva’s daughter, Ruthann and her husband Warren Burgert who reside at Canal Fulton. Treva moved to Stark County to be nearer to the Burgert family, which also includes her grandson, Chad Burgert, also of Canal Fulton. A sister, Wilma Barcus of Canton, completes the family. In addition to her parents, husband, and son, Treva was preceded in death by a brother, Harlan Reif. Friends are invited to call Friday evening (tonight) from 6 PM until 8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where the Reverend Gregg Kelly will lead funeral services at 11 AM Saturday morning from the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. Following the committal service, family and friends will gather for a luncheon in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. In gratitude for her exemplary care, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hanover House, 435 Avis Avenue NW, Massillon, OH, 44646. Alternately, memorial contributions may be made to the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church, 220 North Walnut Street, Gnadenhutten, OH 44629.
